Personal Safety: Self Defense

Laurie, Great idea on the self defense class. They can teach you alot, and do alot for you mentally as well. For those of you that can't take a class for whatever reason, remember the basics of self defense:

If a man cannot breathe, he cannot hurt you.
If a man cannot see, he cannot hurt you.
If a man cannot stand, he cannot hurt you.

If a man cannot breathe, he cannot hurt you. If attacked, and you have a free hand, sock him to the throat with everything you've got. Chances are, you won't crush his trachea, but it'll inhibit his breathing, and you can get away.

If a man cannot see, he cannot hurt you. If attacked, and you have a free hand, put something in his eye. Gouge it out if you have to. It's gross, I know, but would you rather him do something bad to you? usually a blow to the eye(s) will stop someone from seeing for several minutes, gouging should be a last resort.

If a man cannot stand, he cannot hurt you. A couple of things on this one. No matter how muscular a man is, he can never grow muscle on his shin. A good quick kick to his shins will usually bring him down. This is especially useful if grabbed from behind with the attacker's arms around your arms and torso. You have no free hands, but you have two free legs, which are much stronger. Kick back as hard as you can trying to connect your heel with his shin. This will usually make the attacker release you, and narrow his chances of chasing you. And you have to remember, a kick or hit to a man's testicles will INSTANTLY take him to his knees, for a long time. This crap in the movies of women hitting a guy in the balls and he keeps on chasing her is crap! Speaking from a man's point of view, a blow to the balls (sorry, no pun intended) will absolutely make certain you won't be hurt.

And , if none of this interests you, get a gun.

Thanks

Good advice, Paxton.

::P-gouging should be a last resort.

:o}-Gotta disagree here. If someone attacks me, and I have the chance, I'll rip their eyeballs from their head. Sounds brutal, but if it saves my vagina or my life, it's going to be done.

I am glad you mentioned stomping their feet. A cop told me once that feet are one of the most sensitive areas and that the nerves being crushed will create a sort of paralysis in the leg.

Another method, if you get the chance is to kick their kneecap out.

If you kick a man in his testicles, when he bends over, grab his head and use his momentum to bring his head down hard while you lift your knee. Crush his nose and he has pain and blindness.

Never, ever, ever let a perp get you in the car if you can help it. Even if he's armed, take your chances. Most bullet wounds do not kill, but most victims who are kidnapped are killed.

Scream fire.

Laugh like a lunatic, it throws them off, they're not expecting it. Go crazy. Froth at the mouth if you have to.

An attacker is counting on your fear. Many are turned on by it. Don't give it to them.

Should you be taken where there is no chance for help to be raped, vomit, urinate or defecate.

The most important thing to do, though, is to rerun a scenario in your mind dozens of times and often, knowing what you will do in these sorts of situations. That reduces the fear-freeze.

And, another very important thing to remember is to memorize any feature of the perp you can, so that you can identify him later.
